Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a disorder in which they body gradually loose the strength of its immune system completely due to the attack on the nervous system. The syndrome is as equally rare as it is dangerous. That is why very little is known about it in Pakistan. However, there is an alarming number of cases in the country of this deadly syndrome. Hence, there is a strong need of awareness in the society as it results not only in paralyses, extreme weakness and unusually painful sensations but when gone real bad; can also result into death.

Another reason for the syndrome being so ambiguous is that all these conditions can be a result of many other diseases. So a person having a Guillain-Barre Syndrome, who also have not concerned any serious medical assistance, can easily misunderstand it with some other illness. Therefore, proper information and awareness is the only way to save the country from this dark cloud hovering over the nation specially children.

The Need of Having a proper Diagnoses

As per discussed above, Guillain-Barre syndrome is a syndrome rather than an illness as the symptoms are highly camouflaging. That is why a need to have a proper diagnosis has become the most important one in order to treat it. Unfortunately, many of the ordinary clinical facilities may lack the knowledge or focus on this syndrome and hence, may mistreat it.

In Pakistan, there is hardly any special medical services in this regard which makes the country even more vulnerable when it comes to dealing with the illness. There is a strong need for such hospitals or medical service spaces which can diagnose a patient of Guillain-Barre syndrome with proper checkup and tests. In Guillain-Barre patients, the cerebrospinal fluid that bathes the spinal cord and brain contains more protein than usual. Therefore a physician may decide to perform a spinal tap, a procedure in which a needle is inserted into the patient’s lower back and a small amount of cerebrospinal fluid from the spinal column is withdrawn for study.
